The Election Commission has changed the voting date for by-elections. This affects 14 assembly constituencies.

The constituencies are in Kerala, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Voting will now happen on November 20. It was originally scheduled for November 13.

This change helps avoid conflicts with important events on that date. The decision came after requests from political parties.

These include Congress, BJP, BSP, and RLD. They wanted to improve voter turnout.

Earlier, on October 15, the Election Commission announced by-elections for 48 assembly constituencies and two parliamentary seats across 15 states.

Most of these elections were originally set for November 13, except for two.Counting of votes will still occur on November 23.

The constituencies affected are:

Kerala: Palakkad

Punjab: Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, Gidderbaha, Barnala

Uttar Pradesh: Meerapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Karnal, Sishamau, Phulpur, Katehari, Majhawan

The counting date remains unchanged, with results to be announced on November 23.

Reason for the Change

The Congress party pointed out that many voters in Palakkad will be celebrating the Kalpathi Rastholsavam festival from November 13 to 15.

In Punjab, they noted the 555th Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Nanak Dev falls on November 15, with celebrations starting on November 13.

In Uttar Pradesh, parties mentioned that people travel for days leading up to Kartik Purnima, which is also on November 15.
